“I have a really BAD back because my MRI says SO!!”

Have you ever been told that you have a really “BAD back because the MRI is really bad” or “your back is in bits on the MRI” or “that was the worst MRI that I have ever seen”!! What does the MRI results mean in relation to your pain?

Having a MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) in some cases can be really good in establishing the cause of your pain. However, it is only a piece of the jigsaw puzzle that is part of diagnosing and managing a client’s injury/pain.

Some interesting statistics from recent research found that the prevalence of lower back disc bulge in people with NO back pain was 30% at 20 years, 40% at 30 years, 50% at 40 years, 60% at 50 years. This means that wear and tear in lower back is part of the normal aging process and NOT always associated with pain therefore MRI results should be interpreted in the context of your clinical condition.
If you are struggling with lower back pain make an appointment to see us.
