Online physiotherapy consultations – what does it involve?

Online Physiotherapy consultations are available at this clinic.

With the current Covid-19 pandemic and the HSE guidelines we are not able to see clients  face to face in the clinic. Due to this we have implemented telehealth which is using telephone or online video consultations to see and advise clients how to treat and manage their symptoms.  We are predominantly using online video consultations which allows you to speak one-to-one with an experienced physiotherapist at a location that is convenient to you. We have answered some of the most frequent questions below regarding online physiotherapy consults;

Who is it for?

It is suitable for everyone. No matter how big or small your problem is, our experts here to guide and support you in your journey to recovery.

How does the system work?

Our telehealth system is really easy to use. All you need is a smart device or computer with video and audio, plus a decent internet connection and an up to date browser. Your confirmation email will contain a link to your virtual appointment, and we will “ring” you at your appointment time.

What can I expect during the consultation?

You can expect the very same expert advice and guidance that you would in the clinic. This is a full-length consultation, akin to our in-clinic consultations. We will take a detailed case history and will ask you a number of questions to assess your condition. We will then give you our opinion in terms of diagnosis and treatment options, and will create a plan with you for your recovery which might include; strengthening exercises, activity, posture adjustment, lifestyle modification etc. Once your consultation is complete you will receive a personalised exercise programme, complete with video demonstrations, for you to work on afterwards.

Do I need any special exercise equipment?

No special equipment is needed. We will tailor your exercise programme around your specific needs and the resources available to you.

Can I claim back the cost from my health insurer?

Yes, if you have a private health insurance policy, you may be able to claim back some of your physiotherapy costs. Policies vary in this regard, so you may wish to contact your health insurance provider for clarification prior to your treatment.

What are the benefits?

  1. Convenience for patients in accessing professional health services including physiotherapy
  2. Easier access for rural populations who are isolated geographically
  3. Allows remote consultations with patients for second opinions and with professional networks
  4. Reduces environmental impact
  5. Can increase the number of contacts between patients and professionals
  6. Moves with the current trend towards digital healthcare and the need to address health concerns in a timely manner and location to accommodate present lifestyle
